Artist Statement
Sanna Svartström is a Finnish fine artist (B.1993 Pyhäjärvi) who uses painting and graphics as her main media. She graduated at the Kankaanpää School of Art (BA) at 2024 and has previously studied art at Paasikivi-Institute and the Turku Regional School of Arts KONSTa. Svartström's works have been shown in group exhibitions for example, at Pori Culture House Annis and in Kankaanpää Gallery.
Svartström often makes her paintings intuitively or by combining figurative and abstract. In graphics, she focuses more on sketching and more thoughtful work. The subjects in her work often recur parts of the human body, female figures and imaginary worlds.
I am an fine artist who admires the world and its wonders. I mainly prefer to use oil paint in my works, but I have been drawing with different techniques since I was a child. I am interested in combining abstract and expressive painting with figurative elements. I often feature different parts of the human body, such as the eyes, hands, or lips in combination with plants and other things related to the universe or creations of my imagination.
I strive for neutral thinking about the world and I love to study and ponder different theories and seeking for more than one truth. I kind of hope that every one of my work is one universe from which people have different opinions about why things are the way they are.
